The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board uses the Brightspace elearning technology through the Ontario Ministry of Education. The technology itself was developed by Desire2Learn, a Kitchener-based world leader transforming online education. It is not a curriculum, but rather an easy way for our teachers to add their own curriculum. Brightspace is used by schools all over the world.

Getting Started

Course Content

The Content tool is used to store course content such as the course syllabus, lecture notes, and readings. View course content by clicking the Content link on your Course Home navigation bar.

Chat

The Chat tool allows instantaneous communication with classmates, peers, and your instructors. You can hold group meetings, brainstorm ideas, and chat as a group.

Discussions

The Discussion tool is used to communicate with classmates, group members, or your instructor on assignments and readings, and to share course related files.

Dropbox

The Dropbox tool replaces the need for you to mail, fax, or email assignments to your instructor. You can use the Dropbox tool to submit assignments online by uploading your files to designated folders. Your instructor can pick up files for grading and post helpful information in the Dropbox.

Locker

Use your locker to upload and store personal files. All files that are stored in your locker are confidential unless you chose to make them public. This tool is especially useful if you work on multiple workstations, as you can store and access information in a central and stable location.

Preferences

The Preferences settings allow you to customize your personal learning environment. This includes Font Settings, Navigation Bar Auto-Refresh, Display Items, Email Signature and more.
